I grew up surrounded by family whose lives were enriched by textiles and nature. My Auntie had alot to do with my passion for fabrics and art. The memories of her art shed where she would spin and weave natural fibres and be surrounded by wood and stone are dear to me.
For over twenty years I have been a clothing designer in the fashion and corporate industries. In New Zealand, where I was born, I designed and made leather fashions for men and women. In 1988, when I came to Perth to live, I worked for Rebecca M Williams (now Becca Cosmetics), designed and made men and women's french lingerie for her Claremont store. From there, I worked in the corporate fashion industry designing corporate wardrobes for Australian companies for nearly 15 years.
I have collected the most irresistible fabrics for 30 years and just knew that one day I would use them for art.
I choose Japanese textiles for the story it communicates and the amazing uniqueness and vibrancy expressed through the woven and printed artwork. The attention to detail on these vintage silks and cottons is incredible.
The fabrics I select to combine into wall hangings are chosen carefully for colour, texture, presence, and character. I have access to so much more - garden themes, mountains, people, childrens designs of planes, clowns, animals. So full of stories from the time the fabrics were woven. A true collectible. If you want a theme, just ask me and I will source it.
Where possible, a story about the fabric and design is included with your purchase.
Enjoy!
